Tral-Pahalgam road still a distant dream, residents seek LG’s intervention | KNO

Pulwama, Jul 19 (KNO): The residents of Pahalgam belt in Anantnag district and Tral belt in Pulwama district have been demanding the construction of Tral-Pahalgam road continue to face immense hardships in absence of the Tral-Pahalgam road, the demand which has been projected by the locals years ago. Residents of Lihindajan, Walarhama, Sallar, Kular, Liver and it's adjacent areas in Pahalgam belt and Bugmud, Karmulla, Panner, Mandoora, Bhatnoor and its adjacent areas in Tral belt told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that successive governments promised them that the stretch will be constructed as it will be shorten the distance between Tral and famous tourist destination—Pahalgam, however these promises remained confined to papers only. They said that just nine kilometre road needs to be constructed from Bhatnoora in Tral to Lehandajan in Pahalgam to connect two vast areas. The residents said that this route can be later used as an alternative route for Amarnath Yatra and will be the shortest route for people to visit Pahalgam from Srinagar side and vice-versa. Basharat Ahmad a resident of Bugmud said that for decades, they have been taking up this issue with each and every official but on ground no concrete steps are being taken in this regard. Road connectivity will help the people of both districts to get connected and will help these economically backward areas to earn their livelihood as connectivity will increase tourism flow in the area. The residents of both areas requested the higher ups to look into the matter and start work on this stretch immediately so that they could heave a sigh of relief. Meanwhile officials said that the government has taken up this issue with union government and they are waiting for a positive development in this regard. They added that the department has already submitted DPR and the estimated cost of the road is Rs 29 crore, however, they are waiting to get NOC from forest department as well—(KNO)
